Broadcast on June 29, 2021
With Shannon Sims
Hosted by Nick Mattos

Join holistic advocate and food solutionist Shannon Sims, as we dive into rewiring our brain's pleasure and reward pathways. Explore Shannon's "food as practice" philosophy and bring the joy and mindfulness of our physical practices of yoga, meditation, breathwork, and beyond back into the kitchen. Begin to see food as an art medium, direct connection to our life force, and connection to Mother Earth. Let's dwell in the intersections of food justice, creativity, and compassion for all life.

In This Session:

  • Inspire your food practice with mindfulness, creativity, and joy
  • Re-orient to seasonal awareness to align with the intrinsic rhythms of Mother Earth and our bodies
  • Identify blocks around food that may be present in your life, and use compassion and curiosity to create solutions that work for your lifestyle, constitution, and budget

Food Artist and Holistic Health Educator, FoodArtLove

Shannon Sims is a passionate holistic health educator and food artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her works aim to ignite conversation and dwell in the overlapping realms of food, wellness, and creativity. Her food philosophy aims to invoke a sense of place using local produce that reflects the season in a way that is vibrant, delicious, and uplifting. Working with chefs and farmers at the Portland farmers markets for the last decade, Shannon's style is strongly informed by the local landscape, community, and the fluidity of the natural world. With a whole foods philosophy, her work centers around simplicity, balance and harmony within, and to our relationship with Earth.

Losing her mother to cancer at age 25, it became evident early on that food had to do more than be delicious and beautiful—it has to be healing; a living, supportive ally to the mind, body, and spirit for the human journey. Furthermore her longtime friendship with Lane Selman of the Culinary Breeding Network, continues to teach her what it means for food to be truly healing from seed to plate. Shannon is constantly seeking the highest quality products that impart optimal flavor, appearance, and nutrition.

Shannon received training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where she was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. She received her LTM in 2011 from East West College of Healing Arts and Clarity Breathwork certification in 2012. Drawing on this knowledge, she creates a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits each unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
